Malta favors new technologies to help the agricultural sector be more sustainable

Malta supports the promotion of new technologies to help in the transition of the agricultural sector towards greater sustainability. These were the words of the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo during another Council, AgriFish, of the Ministers responsible for the same areas of the countries of the European Union.

Minister Refalo clearly stated that “Malta fully believes that this process should involve collaboration between researchers, policy makers and farmers in order to work together and develop new agricultural practices. This helps in the creation of the agricultural sector which is economically viable and more resilient.”

On the same line as the Maltese Government regarding the digital transition, Minister Anton Refalo reiterated that collectively, these efforts assume a central role in leading the agri-food sector towards an ecological and digital transformation, while fostering the agricultural sector more sustainable, resilient to climate change, and that respects ecology.

Also due to challenges that as an island Malta can face, Minister Anton Refalo said that Malta also believes that we should promote technologies that can be applied at the regional level, with a solution for this could be to incentivize farmers more through schemes under the CAP.
