Therapeutic Farm in San Vincenzo for residents and the public

 An agreement that was signed between the San Vincenzo residence and the Animal Welfare Department will translate into a therapeutic service for the elderly residents of San Vincenzo as well as the public.

This was announced during a news conference by the Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela and the Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said.

Minister Abela explained that in San Vincenzo de Paul several animal therapy activities are carried out in the wards, and this will continue to be expanded with the introduction of this Therapeutic Petting Farm project which is at a stage of ‘ implementation. He explained how this will be a place where St. Vincent residents can spend time with their loved ones while receiving this type of therapy that research shows can help reduce stress, anxiety and the depression. The therapy also helps people with dementia. Minister Abela concluded by saying that through this project with an investment of around €700,000 another electoral promise in favor of the care of the elderly will be fulfilled.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said, described this project as another opportunity for the residents of this hospital, while receiving medical care, to enjoy the benefits of this type of therapy. She emphasized how this project helps in the holistic protection of the residents of San Vincenzo Hospital, as well as all their relatives. “Such projects, together with the care given in the hospital, continue to ensure an amazing quality of life while continuing to increase awareness of the importance of animals in everyday life.”
