The first six months of this year were the best in the history of Maltese tourism in terms of arrivals, nights spent and tourist expenditure. According to figures released by the National Statistics Office between January and June of this year, 1,289,292 tourists visited the Maltese Islands.
This means an increase of 6.7% compared to the same period of 2019. The same year that Malta recorded a record in tourism. The tourist expenditure in the mentioned months was €1,036,795,000. Another substantial increase of 17.4% compared to the same period of the last year before the pandemic. In these first six months, tourists in our country spent 8,145,915 nights.
Another record compared to 2019 when in that same period the nights spent by tourists was 7,870,965 nights. In response to these results, the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo stressed that the plan of the government and the Maltese Tourism Authority is working. “We are optimistic that in the coming months we will continue to achieve more beautiful results. Despite these positive news we must continue to take the decisions through which we update the Maltese tourist product for today’s times”, stressed Minister Clayton Bartolo.
