Sunday’s snap election failed to produce a decisive winner.
The conservative People’s Party (PP) won the most seats but fell short of a parliamentary majority, even with the support of the far-right Vox party.
Now, the PP and the incumbent Socialists will both separately try to form coalitions.
If PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo cannot get enough support to form a government, his rival and incumbant, Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, will then in turn be invited to form a government.
Should both fail to do so, a new election might be held at the end of the year.
