Fifth night of rioting in France following fatal shooting

France witnessed a fifth night of rioting following the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old youth by a police officer on Tuesday.

Nahel Merzouk was shot by police during a traffic stop in a Paris suburb on Tuesday.

He was buried at a hillside cemetary in Paris on Saturday.

Thousands of officers in riot gear were deployed along the Champs Elysees to protect on of the most famous streets in the world from rioters.

Some 2,400 people have been arrested since the shooting on Tuesday with French President Emmanuel Macron cancelling a trip to Germany, his office saying he wanted to stay in France due to the internal security situation.
