The Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, together with the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, visited the new dental clinic in Għajnsielem, a joint educational project between the two Ministries.
The project, which is expected to be completed in the coming time, will be of great benefit to the students in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Malta, because through it they will have not only direct experience related to their academic studies , but will attend the clinic during the academic year to offer clinical services to the public.
Minister Clint Camilleri explained that “in this first dental center in Gozo, the service will focus in particular on Gozitan children who will have a check-up once a year in this clinic. In this way this will serve not only as practice for University students, but also to take care of our children’s teeth.” Minister Camilleri went on to say that this service will be extended to persons with disabilities and the elderly, in a clinic that is equipped with the latest technology, excellent equipment and that will offer an extensive range of services.
Minister Clifton Grima spoke about the importance of collaboration not only between Ministries, but also together with educational entities which leads to benefits and opportunities for students, but also for the whole society. “This collaboration that we are seeing today is leading to the students being trained in what they are studying, but it is also important that an excellent service will be provided by the students to the children, the elderly and the public with general way. And this is what we want to see from the educational sector, work for the benefit of the students themselves but also of all communities,” said Minister Grima.
Also present for the visit were the Rector of the University of Malta Prof. Alfred J. Vella and the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Nikolai J. Attard who spoke and explained the advanced services that will be provided in this the clinic.
