Stiffer penalties for driving offenses

From today drivers face stiffer penalties for traffic offenses.

Among the new measures announced by Transport Malta’s deputy chief officer, Gilbert Agius, anyone using a mobile phone while driving or riding a motorbike will now a €200 fine while getting six penalty points on their driving licence.

Anyone driving through orange or red traffic lights will face a €200 fine.

Anyone driving a passenger vehicle without a Transport Malta permit will face a €50 fine for each person on the vehicle, which will also be confiscated by the authorities.

Mr Agius stated that the new fines give a clear message….to reduce traffic accidents and increase safety on roads.
