The Sports Journalists Association salutes memory of Paul Zammit Cutajar sports photographer

The Executive of the Sports Journalists Association sends its condolences to the Zammit Cutajar family as the death of Paul Zammit Cutajar, a professional photographer who for several years worked in the local and even international sports sector, was announced this morning.

Zammit Cutajar comes from a sporting family, where his father Francis Xavier Zammit, who was an athlete, carried the flag of Malta at Wembley Stadium in the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics in 1948, in front of the only athlete Nesto Jacono.

Paul Zammit Cutajar was a member of the Sports Journalists Association for several years and made a vast contribution to local sports with his avant-garde photography. Paul Zammit Cutajar in 2014 was awarded the Sport and Arts Trophy of the International Olympic Committee. For many years official photographer of the Maltese Olympic Committee.

He started as a sports photographer in 2007 with the Malta – Turkey match in Ta’ Qali. From there in 2010 he was present at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, the London Olympics in 2012, as well as the Small Countries Games in Luxembourg in 2013 and 2014 in the Games of the Commonwealth in Glasgow. Between 2009 and 2014 he was an official photographer at the FINA Swimming Championships and at the Rugby World Cup in 2011. In 2013 and 2015 he won the Category for sports photography in the Malta Journalism Awards.
