449 babies received treatment in the NPICU in 2022

The intensive care unit for newborns and children under the age of three within the Mater Dei Hospital took care of 449 babies during the year 2022.

It is estimated that through the excellent care given in this ward by doctors, nurses and health professionals specialized in this field, 97% of the babies recover completely, so much so that when they join their family at home they live a normal life.

During a visit to this ward, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne followed the way in which the dedicated staff constantly update their practices in order to give the best care to the hospital’s youngest patients.

In light of the removal of further measures to prevent the internal COVID-19 of the hospital, in coordination with the Superintendent for Public Health, the Deputy Prime Minister announced that they will return to this ward for the normal visiting hours for the parents of the babies. Thus after 1:30pm, parents can now visit the babies freely. The Deputy Prime Minister thanked all the workers of the hall for their work.
