Nurses reject government’s pay deal

Nurses and midwives have rejected a government pay offer, the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) said on Tuesday, the Times of Malta reports.

At an extraordinary general meeting, some 800 nurses and midwives voted overwhelmingly to reject a government pay offer. The public service has around 4,000 nurses and midwives.

Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne said the government had offered a pay deal worth €6,000 annually by the end of the agreement’s four-year term.

The union is expected to announce today why the pay deal was rejected.
