Prime Minister Robert Abela met many workers when he visited the Nylon Knitting factory in Qormi. During the meeting with the workers and the visit to the factory, the Prime Minister noted how the continuous investment being made by the company continues to improve the situation of the workers.
In fact, the Prime Minister Robert Abela meant the investment made in different areas of work as a strong way of creating the opportunities that will continue to improve the situation of the workers. Dr. Abela reiterated the Government’s commitment that with the economic growth that our country is experiencing, it will continue to spur incentives in favor of more investment that is being made at a time of new priorities that Malta has including environmental ones.
He pointed out that as a result of that growth we continue to strengthen the conditions of the workers in favor of also improving the quality of life. The Prime Minister noted the latest investment made by Nylon Knitting in recent years where, for this year, the investment from the company is expected to exceed €2 million and consists among others in the installation of panels photovoltaics so that the operation of the factory also uses renewable energy.
This as part of a massive investment in a sustainable and environmental operation. The management of the company in Malta, the General Manager Daniele Cortinovis, explained to the Prime Minister how despite the recent challenges of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, Nylon Knitting continued to increase workers and invest in the same workers through further training. He explained how the company, which has now been based in Malta for almost 60 years with nylon and fabric sewing production, employs close to 250 people where 86% of the workers are Maltese. He said that many workers continued to develop a strong career in the manufacturing sector so much so that they started working on the machines and today they run entire plants.
During the visit by the Prime Minister, it was explained how the company is also continuing to strengthen the export of its product in Malta to international markets, primarily in Europe. Accompanying the Prime Minister Robert Abela was the Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul.
