The best February in history for the tourism industry

The Ministry for Tourism welcomes the figures released by the National Statistics Office related to tourist arrivals in February this year in the Maltese Islands.

In this same month, the volumes, the nights spent in our country and the tourist expenditure surpassed the results obtained in 2019 compared to the same period. The last year that Malta was not affected by COVID-19 restrictions before this year.

The number of tourists who came to our country during February of this year was 132,513 tourists. From a volume point of view, it means an increase of 6% over the same period of 2019 when 125,198 tourists came at that time.

The number of nights spent by tourists in our country during this same month was 816,220 nights, an increase of 5.4% over the same month of 2019 when in that period our country registered 774,589 nights . Significantly, tourist expenditure during this same period rose substantially to €‎86,920,000, an increase of 22% compared to the €71,156,00 generated in 2019.

The Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo pointed out that these results reflect the optimism and confidence in the hospitality sector. “These figures are showing us how much quantity and quality in tourism can go hand in hand together. We are determined to continue working in order to really reach our goal by overcoming the seasonality of the Maltese tourism sector,” said Minister Bartolo.
