50 students presented with a Sport Career Development Program certificate

In a ceremony chaired by the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, 50 students from seven State high schools were presented with the Sport Career Development Program certificate at MQF level 2 or 3 after five years of continuous work.

The Sport Career Development Program (SCDP) was launched five years ago with the aim of giving more importance to sport in schools while opening more opportunities for these students who wish to roam in this field. “We are giving great importance to sport in our schools, because we want to give all possible opportunities to every student to achieve their aspirations and dreams, even in sport,” said Minister Grima.

He congratulated all the students who were given the certificate and wished them more success in both their sporting and academic careers. After an agreement has been reached with the respective institutions, students who obtain an MQF Accredited Certificate at level 3 can present it to continue their studies at a post-secondary level, i.e. at the Maltese College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), in Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS), Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, GEM 16+, De La Salle College and Sir M. A. Refalo Sixth Form in Gozo.

Currently, there are more discussions going on for other post-secondary institutions to follow the same route. Currently the subject is offered in twenty middle and high schools of the State and includes specialization in athletics, basketball, football, swimming, gymnastics, hockey, judo, spraying through a simulator, and dancing.

Apart from this the students are given training in various other sports fields including First Aid, Sports Media, Sports Photography, Anti-Doping Education and Nutrition among others. All this is done in a practical way. a Around a thousand students in Malta and Gozo follow this programme.
