Prime Minister Robert Abela defined Tug Malta as a positive example of a partnership between the Government and the private sector where a strong trend is maintained in an area so important to the Maltese economy.
The Prime Minister stressed this during the inauguration of Tug Senglea, another Tug Malta towing boat that has led to the company now having a fleet of nine towing boats which are crucial to continue helping to pull the biggest companies in the maritime sector to the Maltese ports.
Talking about the investment of €5.7 million by Tug Malta, the Prime Minister listed the importance of the maritime sector for our country and how this area is a major contributor to the Maltese economy also by creating many jobs. The Prime Minister stressed that the Government sees that there is potential for the maritime industry to continue to grow in our country in a sustainable way where its operation is more environmentally friendly. Note how most of Tug Malta’s fleet is equipped with pollution control devices.
In this context, the Prime Minister mentioned how apart from the targets of reducing emissions linked to global warming, Malta was at the forefront that from the beginning of May in two more years the Mediterranean sea would become sulfur emissions controlled area.
“As a pioneering jurisdiction in the maritime industry, Malta attaches great importance to the blue economy and the need to protect our seas,” said Prime Minister Robert Abela and he recalls that this sector is also one that has been placed on the international agenda from our country in the United Nations Security Council.
