“Children belong at school and not fighting in wars and conflicts,” Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg said, during his opening intervention at an international conference on children in armed conflicts and wars.
During his speech, Minister Borg said that impunity is not a choice and those responsible for these crimes should face justice. He also spoke about this priority for Maltese foreign policy, which is also an essential point in the work our country is doing on the United Nations Security Council.
In light of this conference, Minister Borg had a bilateral meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Mrs Virginia Gamba. During this meeting, discussions focused on Malta’s priorities on the subject and how during this important time on the council, Malta will be making all efforts to keep this subject among the top of the international agenda.
Minister Borg also had a meeting with CEO of Geneva Call Mr Alain Délétroz and CEO of Action Against Hunger Mr Jean-François Riffaud.
Minister Ian Borg also participated in the General Affairs Council in preparation for the European Council on Thursday.
