The Minister for the Economy, European Funds and Lands Silvio Schembri announced that Furia, a prominent organization in the world of esports, will relocate to Malta.
This organization, which was founded in 2017 and has structures in Brazil and the United States, and which is one of the most popular organizations when it comes to esports competitions, will be relocating its CounterStrike team to our country .
Minister Schembri announced this while visiting the ESL Pro League tournament today, which is now in the final phase and is being held right in our country. “We believed in the potential of esports for our country from the very beginning. This is an industry that globally is reaching $1.2 billion and that continues to grow every year. Therefore having a championship like the ESL Pro League staged right in our country, continues to show that Malta is the home for excellence in the entire gaming sector,” said Minister Schembri.
“Malta remains committed to this new economic industry, and we continue to support this industry. We believed that our country could be the ideal place from which to organize esports championships if we have a strong infrastructure and that was the case,” concluded Minister Schembri.
Ivan Filletti, the CEO of Gaming Malta, spoke on the work that takes place between Gaming Malta, the Maltese Gaming Authority, and the private sector to operate in harmony from our country. He also mentioned several local companies that are making a name for our country in the world of esports.
ESL Pro League Commissioner Alex Inglot said that this tournament reaches 500,000 users at the same time during the games. He explained that the tournament in our country lasts six weeks, with its climax being reached this week, and during these six weeks in our country there were 338 players and 145 staff members for this tournament.
