An abandoned house in Birgu regenerated for a social purpose

The Minister for Social and Affordable Accommodation Roderick Galdes has announced that the last works have been completed in a house in Birgu that has been regenerated so that it is now allocated for a social purpose.

Minister Roderick Galdes mentioned how this house is part of 15 other houses that were also abandoned and on which regeneration works are underway to give them back to society. With an investment of almost €150,000, this house, which until a few months ago was closed and abandoned, was renovated and handed over to the Housing Authority.

Extensive works were carried out in the house including lighting and water works and other beautification with the aim of the house maintaining its Maltese character.

Minister Roderick Galdes stated that the Government’s strategy in terms of social housing does not stop only with the construction of new apartments. He said that the investment made in this house and that is being made in other houses sends a strong message that we want to see more abandoned houses being utilized in a way that they offer shelter to individuals and families who are in need. .
