Speaking from her official residence in Edinburgh, Bute House, Nicola Sturgeon has announced she will be resigning.
She says that the time is “right for me, for my party and for my country” and that she has ordered her party to start the process of electing a new leader.
The first minister says she will remain in office until a new leader is elected.
