€1 million from the citations given back to the communities

For the third consecutive year, the LESA agency is investing directly in the communities where, in collaboration with the local councils and the Association of Local Councils, it will be implementing 20 different projects around Malta and Gozo with a value of €1.1 million that was collected from the citations.

Thus, in three years, more than 60 projects will have been carried out with an investment of around €3.5 million. This was announced in a news conference by the Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri in Imtarfa, with the participation of the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli.

This locality is one of the sixteen localities that will benefit from this scheme. Apart from these locations, there are also three regional councils that will benefit from the scheme. For this year, the agency will be investing:

in investment in aspects of security in the localities; in the development of new spaces that are currently in a state of disrepair; in strengthening existing open spaces; in restoration of historical places; and in investment in alternative transport.

Minister Byron Camilleri said that with the facts LESA has shown that it not only returns to society but invests in the community. He reiterated that “since the ‘Community Projects’ scheme was launched, nobody predicted that it would be so successful and sought after by local councils. In fact, they were years where everyone learned from them and gained knowledge so that similar schemes that will be announced in the future will be more and more beneficial for the Maltese and Gozitan communities.”

Dr Camilleri concluded by saying that the projects selected this year, as was done in the past years, will be having a positive impact on the localities and above all, on the quality of life of the citizen.

Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli praised the initiative of those local and regional councils that have brought forward their projects that will lead to the improvement of the localities and the lives of the residents.

Also present at the news conference was the CEO of LESA Agency, Svetlick Flores, who claimed that since the establishment of the agency in 2015, the main objective has been a better environment for the citizen.
