With an investment of €5 million, the expansion and modernization project of the Żejtun Secondary School, San Tumas More College was completed. This project involved the building of a floor on each existing block, the development of laboratories and workshops for vocational subjects and the complete modernization of the school.
“As a Government committed to improving the lives of students to look at education as a determining factor in building their own future. We are doing this not only by giving them all possible opportunities, but by improving the educational environment both for them and also for our educators”, said the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima.
The block that was inaugurated today is the administrative block from which work is done by the administration and educators of the Secondary School both for the management of the school and also in the preparation of everything that is necessary for the education of – students.
In the work done throughout this project, 13 classrooms, 8 laboratories for teaching science, 2 classrooms for home economics, and classrooms for engineering and design were added. Laboratories and workshops were also developed for vocational subjects including information technology, hospitality, hairdressing, media, and textiles and fashion. Thus through the teaching of vocational subjects, the students are being better prepared for the world of work. The school has also become fully accessible to all students.
Minister Grima said that thanks to the works that are being done around the country in schools and educational institutions, the Government is seeing more schools being modernized to reach the appropriate environment for learning and for the education of ‘ our children. This is being done with the aim of the students enjoying the time they spend physically at school and also for the educators to improve their workplace.
He also said that the Government fully believes in educators and recognizes their dedication and commitment to give our students an excellent education. This is why we are offering educators all the possible opportunities to advance their careers, and also working conditions that are constantly improving – discussions are currently underway on the new sectoral agreement. Minister Grima said that we are also offering educators a modern environment where they can practice their profession.
The Chairperson of the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools Dr. Cory Greenland thanked the administration of the college and the school for the full cooperation that the FTS always found during the execution of this project. “This particular project is an example of how work should be done in schools, with the least possible impact on the operation”, said Dr. Greenland, who also thanked the employees of the Foundation for the work they carried out on this project and on several other projects.
