Hibernians have moved up to second place in the Premier League following a narrow 1-0 win over Floriana.
It is the second time in a week that Hibs have emerged winners against Floriana, they beat them in a penalty shootout to clinch the Super Cup.
Floriana seemed to have done their homework following that loss as they pressed Hibs from the start. They had the better ideas in the first half with Reid and Lonardelli both going close. Jan Busuttil saw his shot gratefully grabbed by Hibs keeper Haber.
Almost against the run of play, Hibernians took the lead in extra time at the end of the first half Jake Grech escaped his marker to slam past Georgi Kitanov.
After the break Floriana pushed more players forward searching for the equalisier but it was Hibs who almost doubled their lead when Muritala’s attempted lob was just blocked by the feet of Kitanov.
Floriana were reduced to ten men when Christian Rutejns was sent off for a push on Jurgen Degabriele with only ten minutes remaining.
After that Hibs were able to hold on to their one goal lead and clinch the three points to go second but still seven points behind leaders Hamrun Spartans.
