The Minister for Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi announced the two finalist projects from among 12 proposals that were submitted to the program of Arts in Public Spaces 2022-2024, from the first call. The two finalist projects are ‘A fine balance’ by artist Ivan Coleiro and ‘Embryonic Horse’ by artist Rune Bo Jakobsen.
A new call for proposals is being opened today to select four more artistic projects.
The Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi explained that this program is giving artists a public platform so that they can show their vision with the aim of increasing the public’s appreciation for this artistic work, and at the same time it raises the level of the artists.
Thanks to this program which is being financed by the Department for Public Works and Planning, the artists, in collaboration with the local councils, will have the opportunity to continue exhibiting their talent, offering various attractions to the public and meet the aspirations of the community to continue to increase the appreciation for art among the public.
The minister said that the artists will be given €30,000 each for the projects that are chosen.
Present was Martin Formosa, a member of the selection board, who explained how this call is not only an opportunity for artists to exhibit their projects in public spaces permanently, but is also a means of ‘ how we continue to beautify these areas with artistic works that complement the environment of the place where they are placed in Malta and Gozo.
Submissions can be made until Friday, 16 December 2022.
