Minister for Active Aging at a conference in India

The Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela together with the Permanent Secretary Christine Schembri are in Chennai, India, for an official cooperation visit.

They are currently in the state of Tamil Nadu where they had several meetings including with the Minister of Health, Family Affairs and Aging MA. Subramaniam, the Director of the Indian Administrave Service Dr. Mahesvaran, and other authorities.

In these meetings cooperation and joint work between Malta and India was discussed in that which has to do with the care of the elderly and the necessary human resources. Discussions were also held on licensing in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. In addition to this, Minister Abela also attended the first international conference of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh on the impact of Covid-19 on surgical care and recovery from the pandemic.

During this conference, Minister Jo Etienne Abela, in his capacity as International College Tutor, discussed Malta’s potential to become a center for the countries in the Mediterranean for teaching and examinations in surgery.
