Malta becomes a member of the European Center of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats

Malta has become a member of an independent international organization that works to promote different ways for countries to meet the threats that may exist from another country or from third parties against a democratic country and its institutions.

The European Center of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats based in Helsinki, Finland, aims to, together with the network of participating countries, build ways to prevent and fight threats that come from beyond, by exchanging ‘ ideas and specialized training.

Since the establishment of this center in April 2017 until today, 32 countries are participating as members in this center. Present at the moment Malta officially became a participant in this center was the Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms, Equality Byron Camilleri.

In a comment, Minister Camilleri reiterated that Malta recognizes the challenges for security on a global level and stressed that these challenges can be overcome if there is a single effort from several countries united.

“Malta is proud to join 31 other countries in this center and we look forward to the experts we have in our country collaborating with other partners in order to address these realities. Malta, as a state in the Mediterranean, is open to convey its experience and knowledge, particularly in the Mediterranean region and the lower part of Europe, and is ready to serve as a neutral country open to the diplomacy”, concluded Minister Byron Camilleri.
