More than half of the project on the restoration and conservation work on the front of the Qrendi Parish Church is complete. The Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett visited the ongoing works which include restoration on the side facade of the church and the sacristy.
This project is being carried out with an investment of €84,000 of which 80% is financed by European funds from the European Fund for Regional Development. The need to carry out this restoration was felt because the main and secondary facades of the Qrendi parish church have deteriorated over the years. Therefore, the works include, among others, the replacement of stones and the restoration of the openings, as also explained by the project’s architect Amanda Degiovanni.
Once all the works are completed, the parish church of Qrendi will also include the route of historical and patrimonial heritage that is being financed under this project, which aims to provide tourists with a comprehensive experience, and which also allows the Maltese to visit and appreciate a number of cultural places that are close to each other.
Parliamentary Secretary Chris Bonett said that this project is one of 33 restoration projects that the Church in Malta is carrying out through the Cultural Heritage Foundation of the Archdiocese of Malta with an investment of €4 million from European funds. “The churches in Malta are part of the cultural heritage of our country. Therefore through this investment conservation, protection and promotion of the ecclesiastical cultural heritage is being carried out while strengthening the tourist product for tourists who come to visit the historical heritage of our country”, declared Parliamentary Secretary Bonett.
The Parish Priest of Qrendi Fr Mario Said said that thanks to the European funds, the Church of Qrendi is benefiting from this project which will beautify the church and will serve not only the Maltese but also -tourists who visit Qrendi enjoy the historical heritage in this locality.
