Malta lifts restrictions on gay blood donors

Malta has lifted its ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men.

During a news conference from the Blood Donation Center in Guardamangia, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne announced that through an investment in a sensitive device that analyzes the blood, a specific deferment was possible related to homosexual male donors is amended.

Therefore, through this device, a person who wishes to donate blood must have been in a stable sexual relationship with one person for at least 4 months.

This applies to every blood donor he emphasized.
