A hat-trick by new signing Angel Yesid Torres Quinones handed Balzan a 3-1 win over Zebbug Rangers at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.
New Balzan coach Oliver Spiteri handed Jonathan Debono, Ivan Bozovic, Angel Torres, Benjamin Hili, Aidan Friggieri, Momcilo Raso and Matheus Souza their debut as they were all included in the starting line-up. On the other hand, Brian Spiteri named new signings Leandro Almeida, Wilker Rocha Santos, Stefan Jankovic, Charles Lokoli Ngoy, Roberto Enrique Sanchez and Almir De Jesus Soto Maldonado in the starting eleven.
Balzan took just two minutes to take the lead as Angel Yesid Torres Quinones scored with a direct freekick from the right which saw the ball end in the top right corner.
Zebbug were reduced to ten men after Leandro Almeida was sent off for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity after bringing Matheus Souza down just outside the area. From the resulting freekick, Angel Yesid Torres Quinones doubled the score with another fine direct attempt.
Zebbug, however, pulled one back on 35 minutes thanks to Charles Lokoli Ngoy who slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jonathan Debono.
However eight minutes in the second half, Balzan increased the lead once again thanks to a goal by Angel Yesid Torres Quinones, hitting the ball home off the rebound after Jamie Azzopardi saved partially a shot from close range.
