Minister for Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi inaugurates new garden in Birgu

The Minister for Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi together with the Mayor of Birgu John Boxall inaugurated an open space for children’s recreation known as the Birgu Playground Swings.

Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi explained how the Planning Authority, through the Development Planning Funds, gave financial aid amounting to almost €120,000 in order to carry out renovation works in this swing. He said how this fund is of great help to the local councils to carry out projects in the communities.

The Minister praised the works done by the Department of Public Works so that the new swings and benches could be installed on the site. The paving has also been fixed so that the rainwater no longer flows into the ramparts but goes out onto the road, as well as the wall and the outside planters have been restored and the soil in the troughs has been increased. trees.

Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi claimed how this project is another testimony of the work of this Government so that the urban areas continue to be renovated with more sustainable projects and thus the people enjoy a better quality of life. While he thanked the Birgu Local Council for its continuous work, he stressed how now, the community has a recreational space for families and children.

Mayor John Boxall showed his appreciation to the Planning Authority for this fund which is of great help to local councils. The Mayor thanked the Local Council workers and the volunteers who were helpful during the works of this project.

Present for this inauguration was the Architect Vincent Cassar, Chairperson of the Development Planning Fund (DPF) Committee of the Planning Authority, and the Director General of the Department of Public Works, the Architect Stephen Bonello.
