During a visit to the Meridiana Wine Estate the grape harvest season for wine production was opened.
During the visit, the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo reiterated that after a lot of work, it is time to start cutting the grapes that the Maltese and Gozitan farmers grew during the season.
He claimed that once again we had a season particularly characterized by a great lack of rain during the winter and spring as well as an amount of rain at the beginning of the summer that did more harm than good. Therefore, the growing of grapes was more difficult and one should appreciate the sacrifice that the farmers went through to grow this much sought after product.
“Quality wine is one of the products that has a direct link with the Maltese and Gozitan territory. This product is much sought after by tourists who visit the Maltese islands and the quality is recognized even by the European Union, which continues to strengthen the importance of the agricultural sector in our country”, stressed Minister Refalo
He ended by wishing a good season to all the farmers and farmers.
