A booklet for children to raise awareness of domestic violence

Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon launches a new children’s book on domestic violence Cinema Room, Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta

The booklet “Karolina, Ferdi and the wicked witch” was launched, which is aimed at children between 8 and 12 years old. With its simple and explained way, it helps not only children who are going through similar problems, but also professionals to better understand the devastating effects that children carry with them throughout their lives.

These details were announced during a news conference by the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon who explained that through this project, the passion, experience and specialization of the educational and social professionals joined together.

He praised this initiative taken by Positive Parenting, the Commissioner for Children and the Commissioner for Domestic Violence. “How important it is to get down to the children’s level and understand their experiences closely. It will be in vain if we don’t manage to build a sense of trust, so that then they will be comfortable talking about what they went through.”

Through this book, children, with the help of parents, teachers and professionals, find the words to talk about a delicate and difficult subject, in a way that is not heavy and that can help for the children to realize that they are not alone in these difficult situations.

The booklet will be available in all libraries in Malta and Gozo.
