England beat Sweden 4-0 to reach the final of the Women’s Euro 2022.
If the score was impressive, the manner in which the Lioness’s won was even more so.
From the whistle Sweden drove at the England defence, their first attack coming in the very first minute. Ranked number 2 in the world, Sweden hit the crossbar but despite dominating for the early part of the first half, they failed to make their chances count.
And England punished them for that. Mead fired them in front just after the half hour. A packed Brammel Lane in Sheffield was rocking. The noise level went up another notch when Bronze’s header just after the restart gave them a 2 goal cushion and the roar from England supporters went super-sonic when substitute Mead’s outrageous back-heel put them 3 up. Kirby added a fourth late in the game to put a cherry on top of the cake as England cruised into the final on Sunday at Wembley. Will it be Germany or France they face?.
The question should be, will either of those two sides want to face England?.
Germany play France on Wednesday night at the Stadium MK in Milton Keynes.
