Another edition of the ‘I Choose – I Choose My Career’ fair opens its doors

The event ‘I Choose – I Choose My Career’ was launched, a careers fair that takes place every year and which is aimed at State, Church and independent school students who have completed compulsory education.

This event coincides with the SEC results release period with the aim of assisting Year 11 (Form 5) students to evaluate their options, seek advice and make the right choices .

While visiting the careers fair, Minister Clifton Grima said, “This is another opportunity with which students can explore more career options and it is an excellent opportunity for students to gain adequate knowledge about different courses that they can follow after compulsory education’. The minister added that the main objective of the career fair is to assist students to make informed choices for their future.

The ‘I Choose’ event hosts institutions and post-secondary educational entities as well as stands under one roof on careers from various sectors, and is also open to Year 10 (Form 4) students to start exploring career options and possibilities. The program includes different presentations given by professionals in various related fields to assist both students and parents. During the event, a number of interesting discussions about various careers will also be delivered by speakers and professionals coming from various sectors, including private and others.

This educational fair is also open on Saturday 23 July from 09:00 to 13:00 at the Phoenicia hotel in Floriana. More information about ‘I Choose – I Choose My Career’ can be found on the website www.edu.gov.mt/ichoose.

Students can also access the ‘Explore More-My Journey Portal’ site, where students and their parents/guardians can get information about different careers and post-secondary courses available locally. The information is presented in an interactive way with short videos with direct experiences from people working in the industry and a short quiz that helps students identify the work sector that is of interest to them.

The website is in both Maltese and English and can be accessed at http://exploremoreproject.eu/en/. An important part of this careers fair is the personalized guidance that is given by professionals to the students on choosing a career.

Dorianne Gravina, Education Officer within the Ministry for Education, said that it is important that in this decisive phase of their lives, students get advice that can guide them for the future of their lives.
