Granting of funding to 8 local councils that have applied under the ‘Capital Projects – Accessibility and Mobility’ scheme

A news conference was held at the Hastings Garden in Valletta by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government where eight local councils benefited from funding of just over € 400,000 in funding between them, from the ‘Capital Projects – Accessibility and Mobility’ scheme. 

“We are recognizing the challenges facing local councils to ensure thesame quality of life for all,” said Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli. Therefore, in continuation of the funding launched in the year 2020, this scheme was launched to help local councils make this more possible for their respective communities and be in a position to provide a level playing field for all residents. “The faculty of equal opportunities is a very important indicator for the level of social development of the country,” the parliamentary secretary concluded.

The local councils that are benefiting from these funds are: the Attard Local Council which will make new sidewalks for greater accessibility, the St. Julian’s Local Council for the purchase of an electric van , the Valletta Local Council for accessible public conveniences in Hastings Garden, Senglea Local Council which will give access to a lift, St Lucia Local Council will make a tent in an inclusive garden, the Local Council of Victoria will buy an accessible van for people with mobility problems, Ghajnsielem Local Council will put up bollards for more security and walking access and Gharb Local Council will continue to facilitate road and road services. -places.

The director for strategy and policy implementation within the Local Government Division said, “It is the right of every person to live a free and independent life, so we stress that local residents and those who visit the localities or participate in the social life of our communities should have easy access to all the necessary daily services ”.

The respective mayors of the eight local councils as well as representatives of the Local Government Directorate were present at this conference.
