At around 4.30am on Thursday morning police were informed of a possible robbery taking place at a shop in Qawra Road in Qawra.
When officers arrived at the scene they found a glass door broken and blood on the outside of the shop.
They followed the trail of blood and found a man lying down in a pool of blood.
Initial investigations led police to believe this was the man who had broken into the shop.
A medical team and ambulance were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The dead man was later identified as a 46-year-old resident of St Paul’s Bay.
