Dr Lydia Abela attended the signing which will lead to more Maltese patients in need of treatment in London having the peace of mind of a dignified apartment in central London without any financial burden.
The contract, signed at the Malta High Commission for the United Kingdom, sealed the purchase of 23 apartments just minutes away from Great Ormond Hospital. A project of around £ 20 million, funded by donations raised by the Maltese and Gozitan people during activities organized by Puttinu Cares, € 5 million which the Government of Malta financed from the Social and National Development Fund together with an advantageous loan from BOV bank to cover the costs and carry out the necessary works to complete this project.
Dr Lydia Abela stated that this project is a celebration of the generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan people which together with the help from the Government and the BOV bank will lead to more families in the moment of need finding the hand of help they need.
“The Maltese and Gozitan people are always united hand in hand in times of need. This is an investment that goes beyond the building itself but it is an investment in every family living in our country that does not know if it will arrive or when the time of its need will arrive. The only certainty in all this is that, at that moment, that family that is going through so much suffering will find an apartment to welcome them in London that will offer them the necessary comfort without any financial burden. ”
Dr Lydia Abela praised all the efforts made over the years by Puttinu Cares, who since its inception in 2002 has worked hard to ensure that Maltese and Gozitans now have 20 apartments in two other buildings in Sutton and now with this signing they have another building in Central London.
“I salute the memory of Dr. Victor Calvagna, who dedicated his life to such projects and surely this signing is the best way to celebrate it. My appeal remains to the Maltese and Gozitan people to continue to support Puttinu Cares as he always is in the moment of need. ”
Puttinu Cares President Angele Cuschieri said: “This project would not have been possible without the great generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan people, who understood the great suffering that patients and relatives are going through. their. If a person needs treatment abroad and finds an apartment waiting for them, it will alleviate some of this suffering. ”
Present at this signing was Puttinu Cares Chief Executive Rennie Zerafa, who explained that, “Thanks to this project, we can say that we have confirmed the great heart of the Maltese and Gozitan people who, when someone is in need, you will always find them there to unite and support each other ”.
Present for the signing were, among others, the High Commissioner of Malta for the United Kingdom Emmanuel Mallia and the Architect of the project Ray Demicoli.
