Wizz Air will set up a new airline – Wizz Air Malta – with its principal place of business in Malta
This was stated by Minister for Transport, Infrastructure, and Capital Projects Aaron Farrugia, who explained that this is yet another indication that Malta is truly the preferred jurisdiction in the aviation industry.
The announcement is being made after months of discussion between the Civil Aviation Directorate (CAD) within Transport Malta, Wizz Air, and the European Aviation Safety Agency.
The minister explained that this airline will register a substantial amount of aircraft in our country, further increasing the number of our already strong 9H fleet. He also said that Malta will continue to support investors who choose Malta as their jurisdiction for the benefit of this very important industry, and ultimately for the strength of our economy. In fact, he said, it is expected to have a significant impact on our economy and generate further jobs. It will also lead to further opportunities and initiatives.
Civil Aviation Directorate Head Capt. Charles Pace said that it is of great satisfaction to have Malta selected for this new airline. He thanked Mr Varadi CEO of Wizz Air and the board of directors who decided on Malta. He also added that the announcement is a feather in the cap of the Civil Aviation Directorate staff who are recognised for their support through supportive and fair regulatory oversight.
