The #ClimateOn 2022 campaign has been launched: actions for a more sustainable life

Minister for Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli launches #ClimateOn campaign 2022 Mdina Ditch

For the second consecutive year, the #ClimateOn campaign is being launched to raise awareness for more sustainable living. The slogan ‘Activate Change’ implies action from different sectors of society. The themes chosen for this year are sustainable energy use, sustainable mobility, and sustainable financing.

At a press conference, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli stated that this campaign is a platform that focuses on awareness raising for companies, businesses, families, young people and students to adopt climate friendly practices.

“The Mediterranean in particular is a risk area for the impacts of climate change, including higher temperatures and rising sea levels. Timely action is needed to reduce and adapt to the impacts of this phenomenon”, explained Minister Dalli.

Malta, together with the European Union, has committed itself to an ambitious target to collectively reduce emissions by 55%. In fact, discussions are currently underway on the legal framework of the Fit-for-55 with which the countries of the European Union, including Malta, will reach these targets.

“This is a crucial moment for timely action, an action that moves from words to deeds through an educational campaign. Through various schemes, incentives and aids, the government is trying to incentivise change. At the same time, we must encourage innovative solutions that make our society resilient and able to adapt to the irreversible conditions that climate change is bringing”, said Miriam Dalli.

Initiatives and projects that can provide climate solutions, through research, innovation, technology, and the development of new methods, are being encouraged during this campaign. Reducing the use of fossil fuels and their associated emissions brings several benefits, including less pollution, fewer threats to human health, less impact on the environment and the destruction of biodiversity, as well as more actions to strengthen the economic sector.

The #ClimateOn campaign will continue its collaboration with various sectors, including the public sector, the private sector, the industrial sector as well as the education sector.
