The Planning Authority (PA) is investing in a green infrastructure project in a public square in Ħal Farruġ, next to the housing estate, Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia announced, in the presence of the Chairperson for the Development Planning Fund (DPF) Perit Vince Cassar and Luqa mayor John Schembri.
Minister Farrugia explained that the residential area of Ħal Farruġ dates back to about forty years ago and recently, the need was felt to carry out landscaping work, through green infrastructure, in a public square that is located in this area, which is the residence of many families.
Minister Farrugia said that this is the third green infrastructure project announced this week, precisely in the areas where people live and work, and that the good thing about this fund is that it is making a difference in their daily lives. He said that this project is a good example of the DPF greening reform bearing fruit.
Perit Cassar said that the PA approved this project, allocating €215,000 from the DPF. He explained that this proposal was welcomed straight away as it was apparent that the area was abandoned and that with substantial embellishment, it would be enjoyed better by the public.
Luqa mayor John Schembri thanked the authority for approving the funds for this local council project of a national scale which will commence in the coming weeks.
