Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne highlighted the importance of investments in equipment to assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing patients. The head of this department, Professor Yves Muscat Baron, explained how 20% of women suffer from urinary incontinence, both due to obesity or pregnancy and due to a nervous bladder – leading to discomfort in everyday life. He explained how this service is provided in conjunction with a physiotherapy service, which together helps patients to overcome this problem of incontinence.
Professor Muscat Baron also said that more of this type of test is currently being performed than in previous years, so that Mater Dei Hospital can meet the demand.
