Speaker Anġlu Farrugia leads a Holocaust Remembrance Day in the Parliament of Malta.

The Speaker, Anglu Farrugia, reminded that on this day the international community stops and reflects on the events that left so many Jews victims of genocide perpetrated by Nazi Germany and all those who supported it during the Second World War. The Speaker spoke of the fact that although hatred breeds extreme behavior, history shows that even in those moments of darkness, we find so many others who with love for their neighbor, and were willing to go through hardships in order to help and save their peers during the Holocaust. These good people are considered to be the Righteous Gentiles. The speaker mentioned St. Maximilian Kolbe, a Pole and a Franciscan priest who gave his life in the Auschwitz Concentration Camp for a man who had a family to live on. He believed that the greatest poison of our time is indifference, so it is the role of the politician to protect the rights of all and stressed that we should all do our duty to the citizen and b a commitment to care for the poor, the vulnerable and those who fall behind or end up in social poverty.

In his speech, the Speaker reminded that politicians today need to recognize the reality around them and intervene to prevent the danger of extremist views and dark powers from spreading and preventing them from taking root in society and around the world. . This is possible only because we all strive for education, where from an early age, we have nurtured rich values ​​of goodness, solidarity, peace, and peace among human beings.

During this Remembrance, speeches were made by Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici MP, Opposition Spokesperson for Foreign and European Affairs, and Rabbi Chiam Segal and Ms M. Segal, representatives of The Jewish Community in Malta. Towards the end of the Memorial, an exhibition on the Holocaust was inaugurated by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in collaboration with Yad Vashem, the International Holocaust Center, in Jerusalem, Israel. The public is invited to visit this exhibition in the building of the Parliament of Malta until Thursday, 10 February 2022 between 09.00 in the morning and 05.00 in the afternoon.
