More digital courts: more efficient, effective and accessible processes

Justice and Governance Minister Edward Zammit Lewis has announced amendments to the Criminal Code law to allow for a digital copy of the processes in the lower and higher jurisdictions. This is another link to implementing the national digital strategy.

Minister Zammit Lewis explained that this amendment will mainly ensure that the current files are better managed and will eliminate the possibility that for some reason these documents will not be put in place. It will also safeguard the wear and tear of these important documents.

This measure will also reduce the physical burden on employees who carry these documents every day while also reducing the bureaucracy when it comes to signing to take these acts or documents from one place to another. Lawyers, legal procurators and the judiciary will also have better access to documents. Therefore, this will reduce delays. Ultimately, this will have a positive impact on the environment, with less use of paper.
