Government allocates € 3.5 million to Carer at Home scheme

During this year’s Budget, the government allocated € 3.5 million to the Carer at Home scheme.

The Minister for the Elderly and Active Aging Michael Farrugia announced this at a news conference during which details were given about this scheme, through which seniors are given financial assistance to employ qualified carers of their choice to assist them in their needs in the private home. This without losing the right to benefit from additional services offered by the Department of Active Aging and Community Care.

Through the increase allocated, the benefit under this scheme will be increased from € 6,000 to € 7,000 per year. Minister Michael Farrugia explained that over the years, the benefit has increased from € 4,500 in 2016, to € 5,200 in 2017, € 5,291 in 2020 and € 6,000 per year in 2021. He said this was the first time the government had allocated an increase of € 1,000 a year.

Minister Michael Farrugia explained that thanks to this scheme, the elderly person will continue to live in the comfort of his home.
