Leaders Hibernians extend gap at top as chasing pack falters.
Hibernians increased their lead at the top of the BOV Premiership with a 1-0 win over defending champions Hamrun Spartans.
The only goal courtesy of a powerful strike by Jake Grech mid-way through the first half.
Heavyweight contenders Valletta and Birkirkara both lost, B’Kara surprisingly beaten by bottom side Sta Lucia while Valletta were turned over by old rivals Sliema Wanderers.
Those defeats mean that B’Kara are now six points adrift of Hibernians while a massive eight points now separate Valletta and Hibs.
Valletta are trying to limit the damage done at the weekend by lodging a complaint against Sliema, claiming they fielded an ineligible player. The result of that appeal will be worth watching.
