Dr Lydia Abela launches the second edition of ‘Christmas Card’

It is a national invitation to all children under the age of 16 to be the artists designing the Christmas card that will be being sent by the Office of the Prime Minister for the coming holidays.

At a press conference at St. Ignatius College, Siġġiewi Primary School, the wife of the Prime Minister Dr Lydia Abela launched the second edition of the ‘Christmas Card’ initiative which last year was carried out with success with very positive participation from children and young people living in residential homes.

“Last year we launched for the first time this initiative by inviting children and young people living in residential homes to come up with their original drawings and from them were selected designs that were distributed by the Office of the Prime Minister to so many people, dignitaries and entities, “said Dr Abela.

A 2021 Christmas card will take a different turn as the invitation will be open to all children in Malta and Gozo between the ages of 4 and 16.

“Through your imagination you will tell us what Christmas means to you,” explained Mrs. Abela with the children present in the school yard. “That’s why Robert and I are trusting you, with your talent and skills, to be the artists of the official postcards that will be used for this Christmas.”

Children are also being invited to write a beautiful message to be included on the inside of the Christmas card, in addition to the drawing.

“Remember that the dreams that you will be expressing in that postcard will be conveying the official congratulations of the Maltese Government not only in Malta but also in Europe and in the world. I am really looking forward to seeing the fruits of your creativity, ”concluded Dr Abela.

Following the speech of the Prime Minister’s wife, the Director for Funds and Strategy within the Malta Council for the Arts, Mary Ann Cauchi, gave a more detailed explanation of the guidelines related to the ‘Christmas Card 2021’ initiative.

Submissions opened today, 18 November 2021, and will close on 3 December 2021 and must be sent by post to the address “Christmas card, Office of the Prime Minister, Auberge de Castille, Valletta”, or on the email kartolinamilied@gov.mt.

The artwork of all children will be exhibited in an exhibition in Creative Space from December 16, 2021 to January 9, 2022.
