PM in meeting with Secretary General of OCED

Prime Minister Robert Abela met with the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann at the organization’s offices in Paris this morning. The Prime Minister is currently in Paris for the Paris Peace Forum and the Libya Conference.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Abela and Secretary General Cormann discussed issues of priority and concern to both parties, including the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. The Prime Minister emphasized Malta’s commitment to address global issues in cooperation with international partners.

Malta’s relationship with the OECD was also discussed during the meeting, with Prime Minister Abela stating his eagerness and resolve to deepen the Malta-OECD relationship further, this especially following a series of unprecedented reforms that strengthen Malta’s institutions, governance and the rule of law more generally.

Secretary General Cormann welcomed Malta’s keen interest to engage with the OECD and looks forward to continued cooperation and dialogue.

The OECD is an international organization founded in 1961 to shape policies that foster prosperity, equality, opportunity, and well-being for all.
