Ambassador Lorenzo Vella participated in the exchange of views with the President of the Pompidou Group of the Council of Europe, João Goulão, marking the Group’s 50th Anniversary.
During his intervention, Ambassador Vella expressed Malta’s full support for the revised Statute which has brought the Pompidou Group in line with today’s exigencies in the field of addiction. In this regard, he warmly welcomed the renaming of the Group and extension of its mandate to cover all behavioural addictions not just drug addictions, as well as its new strong focus on human rights.
Ambassador Vella also underlined that human rights should always be at the centre of drug policy, and reaffirmed Malta’s 🇲🇹 continued support to the Group’s important work and activities.
