MOU signed between AFM and MCAST

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Armed Forces of Malta and the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, MCAST, which will lead to more training opportunities.

A five-year agreement will lead to the development of the education and training of both MCAST students and the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Malta. At a press conference addressed by the Minister of Education Justyne Caruana and the Minister of the Interior, National Security and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri announced how this will continue to ensure greater collaboration between the two entities to more students and soldiers are given the possible tools to have a successful career.

 Through the agreement between the FAM and MCAST, special courses will be developed which will ensure that Armed Forces recruits obtain accredited MQF level courses. Therefore, officials will be able to develop their skills and knowledge but also enjoy the benefit of valid training with certificates that can be translated into the world of work. This while the Armed Forces of Malta will be offering training to engineering students among others on a technical and professional level.

 Education Minister Justyne Caruana explained that this agreement will also open up employment opportunities as MCAST graduates, particularly those pursuing an Extended Diploma in Studies from the Foundation for Security, Enforcement and Protection, be able to join the FAM upon successful completion of the study. "MCAST is continuing its work to lead industry-relevant courses that will help address skills gaps and also help us have a workforce that meets the needs of the country," she said. 

Interior Minister Byron Camilleri argued that this agreement is an important step in further strengthening the training of soldiers. "Having improved the working conditions of all disciplined bodies, it is now time to push for accredited quality training so that work in the Armed Forces and other bodies can really begin to be seen as a career. Today, anyone who chooses to start their career in the service knows that they have a government committed to investing in it, ”said Minister Camilleri.
