Police break a crime ring organized by foreigners in Malta

Police arrested three men from Romania aged 54, 40 and 39 respectively, who form part of a group of an international organized crime ring that commits thefts known as ‘pickpocketing’.

Investigations have shown that the criminal group is going wherever there are crowded places, mostly on buses.
their victims.
Through the concept of ‘Intelligence-Led-Policing’, the Police Force is being pro-active in these types of crimes. The investigations were conducted jointly by several Specialized Branches and Districts. From these investigations it emerged that the suspects allegedly committed the theft in Malta in a few days during the summer months last year and left immediately for
another country.

Through collaboration with foreign countries, together with Europol and Interpol, it turned out that people have been committing these crimes in several countries in Europe that have been attracting tourists since 2010. The ‘Intelligence-Led-Policing’ led to information that the men returned to Malta on a flight from Budapest to Hungary. At the airport, police observed them catching a bus, followed them to a hotel in St. Julian’s where they were arrested.
