Local manufacturing company SAW Ltd invests €9 million to expand its operations

Local manufacturing company SAW Ltd has invested €9 million to expand its operations, increase its factory space, target foreign markets and keep on offering high quality jobs.

During a visit at the furniture-making company in Ħandaq, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli praised the company’s forward-looking vision. Director and manager,  Stephen Azzopardi and Mark Cassar, explained how the investment was carried out during the pandemic.

SAW Ltd started its operations in a garage in Għargħur back in 1991. Today, it employs close to 70 employees operating from the 3,500 sqm factory at the Ħandaq Industrial Zone.

SAW Ltd manufactures furniture products for both local and international markets. Its employees vary from installers, technical work, skilled workers, designers, and administrative workers.

SAW Ltd invested €9 million to continue expanding the factory to a five-storey complex. This investment was made possible due to various schemes offered by Malta Enterprise, such as the Investment Aid Scheme.

“This expansion continues to prove the interest our country generates to both local and foreign investors. We will continue supporting investments that generate quality jobs and sustainable growth,” said Minister Miriam Dalli, adding that the assistance provided helps to attract new investments whilst supporting existing ones.

SAW Ltd also invested in energy-efficient systems and smart technology, whilst 25% of electric consumption is generated from renewable energy. Additionally, the company recycles its waste by giving it to farmers for agriculture use.

On his part, SAW Ltd manager Mr Mark Cassar explained that since the inception of the company, both himself and director Mr Stephen Azzopardi worked to invest in both the physical elements of the factory, as well as in human resources “We always looked ahead to offer a better and quality service, whilst being competitive and efficient. We now look forward to keep on investing in sustainability. Thanks to the assistance by Malta Enterprise, we managed to implement projects which we would not have been able to implement on our own,” Mr Cassar said.
