800 migrants allowed to land in Sicily

Italian authorities have allowed two boats loaded with around 800 migrants to land in Sicily.

One group of 257 arrived in Trapani on Saturday.

A larger group of 549 landed in Pozallo.

The Italian government has appealed to the European Union for member states to take some of the thousands of migrants who arrived in the country in recent months but previous similar appeals have gone largely unheeded.
